4 Ingredients to Write a Transformational Devotional
A devotional is a specific book designed to help people build a stronger relationship with God.
Devotionals are meant to help guide people during the personal time that they spend with God.
Oftentimes, people call their personal time with God- DEVOTION.
Devotionals usually include a life lesson, scriptures, and a prayer for people to use to help them with their spiritual growth and to increase their intimacy with God. People who read devotionals desire to grow their relationship and connection with God.
You can write a devotional that many people can use during their devotion or personal time with God. Isn’t it an honor to be used by God to help people with their spiritual growth?
If you want to write a FRUITFUL, IMPACTFUL, and TRANSFORMATIONAL DEVOTIONAL, then you need to be clear about the following areas.
BE SPECIFIC: Pick a specific area that you want to write a book about to help Believers mature. You have a lot of knowledge, but in your one devotional make sure to narrow down your topic to one key area of spiritual growth. Think about what you have mastered or overcome in your walk with God. Make sure you write about what you know. Refrain from jumping on trends or something that sounds cool. Ask yourself what you are an expert in and write about it!
For example: Your devotional could be centered on helping people heal from family wounds.
A devotional topic could be around encouraging single parents to continue to find peace and strength in God.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT NUMBER OF DAYS: How many days do you desire for your devotional to be? Typically, a transformational devotional should be at least 21-30 days. You will be more motivated to finish your devotional if you know how many days it will take to get through.
For example, you can write A 30-day devotional to help people process grief with God, or you can write a 21-day devotional to help people grow the fruit of the spirit.
CHOOSE RELEVANT SCRIPTURES: Make sure your devotional has scriptures that are relevant to your specific topic. Choose scriptures that are in direct alignment with the theme of your devotional. There is nothing that is more transformational and impactful than God’s word.
APPLICATION: In your writing, explain in detail how people can APPLY or USE these scriptures in their daily lives. When you are writing out practical application, share your personal life lessons or the wisdom you simply learned from spending time with God.
Think about an actionable item or something that you want your readers to take with them and apply to their lives.
