Four Reasons We Write to Heal

‘I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I write and I understand.’ Chinese Proverb

 1. Understand

People only prosper from their pain once they gain some type of understanding about why they went through particular situations. Through understanding the pain that they have endured, people can figure out how their stories can be used for glory. On the other end, some may not fully understand exactly why they had to past through certain fires, but there are still principles of wisdom that can be extracted from walking through moments of anguish.

We write to understand where we want to go in life. We write so that we understand that we are not what has happened to us.  Writing is a reflection tool to understand how we have become the way we are currently and also how we want to show up in the future. Once we come to some sort of understanding about who we are through writing, we are able to go back and help other people thrive and dominate in their own destiny.

2. Voice

There are times where we cannot speak, but our writing gives voice to the internal dialogue that has caused us to live in torment. Delineating our pain on paper gives us the opportunity to process and give language to the pain that haunts us. When we figure out the voice that has caused us anguish, we have a chance to confront those painful thoughts.

When we finally take back our power and overthrow the voices of pain, we will project our voices as leaders that can help others heal. Writing causes us to discover our unique voice. We can change that voice of pain and turn it into a voice of triumph. As we pursue healing, we have a story that we can share with others to give them hope about their future.

3. Transparency

Transparency is the doorway to healing, and it leads us closer to taking the power back in our lives. Writing gives us a chance to be brave about telling people when we are still hurting. In addition, when we are transparent, we have the power to share with others how we overcame painful moments. Once we can express ourselves out loud and share our stories, we are on our way to being authentic leaders.

4. Freedom

The ultimate goal in our healing journey is to be free of a painful past that has been weighing us down. There are certain areas in our destiny that we have been afraid to walk in because of a painful past. There are certain relationships that we were afraid to commit to because of what we experienced many years ago. We write and pursue other mechanisms of total wholeness so that we no longer make decisions based on a painful past. We write so that we can lead from a place of purity, sincerity, love, and authenticity.
